Service Locating
Quality Level B

Service Locating has many names however the most common name is Pipe and Cable Locating. This is a method of finding underground assets / services / utilities. This method of locating is used to locate assets that are conductive such as:
Copper communication cables.
o Telecommunication
o TELSTRA
o OPTUS

Steel or DICL (Ductile iron) pipes
o GAS
o FUEL
o WATER
o SEWER
Electrical lines

The Assets are found by using a Receiver to find the Radio Frequency (RF signal) that is emitted from the asset. If the asset is not emitting a signal that the Receiver is able to pick up then a device called a Transmitter is used to induce a signal into the asset that the receiver can synchronise with in order to determine the location of the asset in all 3 axis X, Y and Z(depth).
What if the assets / services / utilities pipes are not conductive and/or do not have the ability to carry a signal?
There are still more options.
Sonde and Roding
Ground Penetrating Radar-GPR
Slab Scan
Vacuum Excavation
